Put yams in single layer dish & bake @ 350 F for 15 minutes. meanwhile... In heavy 2 quart saucepan, stir together sugar, corn syrup, cream, margarine, & salt. Stir constantly, bringing to a boil over medium heat. Boil 5 minutes. Pour over yams and bake for 15 additional minutes, occasionally basting with juice from pan.
