SPEEDUP Version 0.0 - 8086/8088/V20 Processor Speed Increaser Freeware from Kirk Lawrence CP/M-86 Edition SPEEDUP will increase the effective processor speed of a PC or XT class computer by five to ten per cent...a fairly significant "speed-up." SPEEDUP works by instructing the 8253 timer chip to slow down the RAM refresh rate. It changes the normal DREQ0 interrupt from its usual 15-microsecond interval to a much longer period of time. This means that the processor doesn't have to spend nearly as much of its time refreshing the RAM...which effectively increases processing speed. The RAM refresh, even at this much lower rate, should be well within the "safe" limit for 8086/8088/V20-based machines. However, if by some chance SPEEDUP causes your computer to "lock up," simply reboot the machine. SPEEDUP.CMD is free. As is always the case with "freeware," there are no guarantees whatsoever. If you use SPEEDUP.CMD, you do so entirely at your own risk and peril. Your use of SPEEDUP.CMD shall be prima facie evidence under law that you understand and accept these terms and conditions.
