GAMEPORT Version 0.0 - Game Port Diagnostic And "Fixer" Freeware from Kirk Lawrence Some computers -- particularly many 80286 machines -- don't recognize that they have a game port installed, unless a joystick or some other device is actually ATTACHED to the port when the machine boots up. If a user is un- aware of this eccentricity, it can cause much hair-pulling and frustration. Moreover, there's been no convenient way to fix this problem...until now! GAMEPORT will diagnose and correct the deficiency. Invoke GAMEPORT at the prompt (type GAMEPORT and then press the ENTER key). It will tell you whether or not your machine recognizes that it has a game port installed. If GAMEPORT shows that your computer doesn't acknowledge having a game port... yet you know for certain that the machine actually DOES have such a port in- stalled...you may instruct GAMEPORT to "force" recognition of the port. At the prompt, type GAMEPORT ON ...and then press the ENTER key. This should "fix" the problem. To check that the forced port recognition has been successful, run GAMEPORT again with no command-line parameters. => WARNING: Do NOT attempt to force recognition of a game port if your computer doesn't actually HAVE one installed! Totally unpredictable results may occur. You've hereby been warned. GAMEPORT works with all IBM-compatible computers, and is universally compat- ible with any class of machine...from 8088 through Pentium and beyond. GAMEPORT.CMD is free. As is always the case with "freeware," there are no guarantees whatsoever. If you use the program, you do so entirely at your own risk and peril. Your use of GAMEPORT.CMD shall be prima facie evidence under law that you understand and accept these terms and conditions.
