************************************************************************** GO.COM v. 1.08, (c) 1987, 1988 J.W. Olsen, All Rights Reserved. 2 May 1988 ************************************************************************** Version 1.08 adds minor speed-ups, plus touch-ups to help screen. (Nope, rewriting in assembly language and INSTALL program are still on the "unfinished projects" pile. Patience, me laddies and lassies....) Version 1.07: Besides a little polish, revised DIR-invoking method to use sequential-file format. So GO is now usable on CP/M v. 1.4 and certain other systems not permitting random files. Also, the $$$.SUB file which invokes DIR is automatically "hidden" during DIR displays. Version 1.06: Auto-DIR can be suppressed by adding space and slash (" /") after a request. Version 1.05: Automatically invokes DIR function (or whatever program you have named DIR.COM, if you've nulled out DIR on CP/M's system tracks). This function only is active in DU: areas to which a NAME is assigned; for all other areas, DIR is suppressed. This is for BBS use: Active areas for callers can be named; all others are sysop-only, for which DIR isn't usually wanted. INSTALL program has been put on the back burner for now, during which time distribution of GO has been kept limited. When INSTALL is completed GO will be installable with auto-DIR or non-auto-DIR as default, with a run-time toggle to override the default. *** This CP/M program, similar to a Z System feature, permits you to jump around drives without typing, for example, "B:", then "USER 3." GO takes this a step further. It's great for those of us unwilling or unable to sacrifice TPA, since nothing remains RAM resident. Also, any of the following specs get you to the same place from anywhere on the system: "GO B7:" "GO B7" "GO PROGRAMMING" "GO PRO" (only 1st 3 letters required) You could accomplish the same thing from anywhere on B: with GO 7: and from user area 7 on another drive with GO B:. In all instances, case (i.e., capitalization is irrelevant, and in fact instead of a ":" you could type a semicolon. If you make an erroneous entry, forget how to use GO or don't recall the names of user areas, typing GO by itself supplies help (including a system "map"), then prompts for input (CR to abort). Thus, in effect, it also replaces the MAP program found on many RCP/Ms. GO was developed after many hours of frustration and chuckles watching some callers try to get around my two boards, The Advocate and NOWAR. After that, my goal was to put together something to trap most reasonable attempts. An INSTALL program is partially completed. But for now you can change area NAMES with a disk utility such as DU. This release is not for commercial use or distribution without the expressed, written consent of the author. For others, it's shareware. If you like it, donate a couple of bucks or a couple of 5 1/4" disks to the boards I run. If you make checks payable to "MCMC/NOWAR," the nonprofit agency overseeing NOWAR, you can be doing a public service and perhaps simultaneously obtain a tax deduction. All funds go to support of the RCP/M. $20 entitles you to the next release of GO. (These things always have a way of being expanded, you know.) I decided to release our board's version under these terms to allow others to share in our efforts while modestly helping keep us on-line. Consider a copy for your personal hard drive, and/or for any RCP/Ms which you frequent which might find it valuable. You, too, may find the convenience--without loss of precious little RAM--a real benefit. Comments, questions, reactions encouraged, preferably on the BBS. Enjoy.... J. W.
