November 24, 1987 MXO-ON2 is a full-featured combination hardware and modem overlay for ON! computers. It is based on the MXO-KPS4 overlay for the Kaypro and on Joe Wright's T3M-ON1 Term III overlay for the ON!. It features full support for all major features of the Z80 DART including send-break and setting word length, stop-bits and parity. Both true Hayes-compatibles and the semi-compatible Anchor modems are supported. MXO-ON2 was created out of my personal preference for MEX114 over the IMP program supplied with the ON!. IMP is a fine program within its design limits, but is severely lacking in flexibility for a dedicated MEXer like me. In general, MEX will operate in the same manner as with the ancestor Kaypro overlay, with the notable exception of radically re-written SET ANSWER and SET ORIG commands. SET ANSWER now suspends MEX until a validated modem call is received or until a control-C local abort. This will enable the astute MEX user to set up looping READ files for limited unattended access to the ON!, although it is no substitute for the true remote console capability of BYE or MEX Plus. READ files that use this style of SET ANSWER can be found in the MEXWELCM.LBR file I released a couple of years ago for the old MXO-KP41 Kaypro overlay, which inadvertantly implemented the capability, but only for the internal Kaypro/TI modem. It would be a relatively simple matter to implement the enhanced SET ANSWER and SET ORIG commands for other combination hardware/modem overlays for MEX - the MXO-SBSx series for the SB180 are also of the MXO-KPS4 lineage and are very good candidates for this hack.
