QC10 V1.2 -- The Kaypro 10 Fast Floppy Disk Copier (C) Copyright July 1985 by Mark Frank This program is for Kaypro 10 owners only. It allows you to make high speed copies of single or double sided Kaypro format diskettes (formatted or un-formatted). Note: This program is public domain. The author assumes no responsibility. Use at your own risk. Etc. If you like it, send a couple of bucks to your favorite charity. To Use: Enter QC10 and follow the simple directions. Requirements: - A Kaypro 10 computer (any Kaypro 10). - At least 400K free total disk space on both A: and B: combined. If you only need to copy single sided diskettes, then 200K is sufficient. - At least a 40K TPA. Features: - Automatically handles single or double sided diskettes. - Automatically detects if TARGET diskette is pre-formatted, and formats during copy operation if not. - Uses only FREE SPACE on the Kaypro 10's hard drives for temporarily holding the diskette data. No temporary file is created (i.e. CPM is bypassed after the disk allocation maps are read). - Copy times are as follows (double sided): Copy from diskette to hard disk: 55 seconds Copy from hard disk to formatted diskette: 45 seconds Copy from hard disk to unformatted diskette: 70 seconds Totals, assuming a single copy operation (counting swapping time): Source diskette to formatted target: approx 1:45 Source diskette to unformatted target: approx 2:10 Each additional copy: To Formatted: 50 seconds To Unformatted: 75 seconds - Automatically writes bad track on opposite side of single sided diskette in order to "undo" a previous double-sided format performed on that diskette. (Once a diskette is DS-DD on a K10, it's always DS-DD because the second side of the diskette in not affected by formatting programs such as MFDISK or UNIFORM when they do a SS-DD format). Note this feature will nail you if your target diskette is one of those single-sided jobs that you've converted into a pseudo-double sided diskette by hole punching, etc. The other side will be rendered "empty", even after a single-sided copy operation. - Copy process can be aborted at any time by hitting Control-C. Obviously, if you abort in the middle of the copy-to-target operation, the target diskette will be unpredictable. - Detects if target diskette is inadvertantly write-protected. - Reports read and write errors on diskettes.
