GREETINGS This disk contains files related to my 256K RAM hardware mod for the Kaypro. Much of it was put together after the article was published as a number of people have asked me for information on my software. At the time of writing this the copy of Micro Cornucopia containing the RAM disk mod has not reached me so I haven't been able to read it yet !!! Z3BIOS4G is the BIOS I use. It is rather personal and I suspect many people do not wish to wrestle with ZCPR version 3. However you may find it interesting. It needs modifying if you are not using a Pro Monitor 8 version 2.1 ROM (the DirBuf address). RAMDRIVE is a public domain program I sought out earlier this week and modified to use with the extra RAM. It is probably the best way to go while doing and testing the Mod. It is the quickest and easiest since it patches the BIOS and adds the necessary routines. CBIOSR incorporates RAMDRIVE into a standard CBIOS for the Kaypro. Once you have all working then install it on your disks. There is plenty of room for adding extra facilities as although RAMDRIVE and CBIOSR take 1K of RAM from the TPA they only use half that. RAMINIT initialises the RAMDISK for use with CBIOSR. RAMINITD does the same for Z3BIOS4G. RAMDRIVE has its own initialisation but is also compatible with RAMINIT. To all those who have done or are thinking of doing this mod may I wish you every success. A word of caution - PLEASE don't do the hardware part yourself unless you feel fully capable of taking a soldering iron to your mother board and unsoldering all those RAM chips, replacement motherboards cost money!!!!! All the best - Mike Liddle
