                      INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE




     GRAFKII  and  GRAFK10 (referred to as GRAF,  following)  are 
software  packages  designed  to take  advantage  of  the  unique 
capabilities  of  the  Kaypro computer and a variety of different 
printers.

     GRAF is specially configured for the video control codes  of 
the  Kaypro line of Computers.   GRAF will not work correctly  on 
any other brand of hardware.   GRAF will generate a bar graph, to 
the  screen  and  the printer,  from  user  input,  automatically 
scaling the display to the data.


     To invove the program, type:


          A>GRAFKII <cr>       for Kaypro II version...

                            - OR -

          A>GRAFK10 <cr>       for Kaypro IV/10 version...


     When the program signs on, you will be presented with a menu 
of choices.  You may read in an existing graph file FILENAME.GRF,  
type  in  a  new graph,  configure GRAF for one  of  the  printer 
selections, or exit the program.  These options work as follows:

     <R> - Read in an existing graph file.  The program will then 
search  the  directory  of  the  default  disk  and  display  the 
filenames  of each of the existing graph files on the disk.   You 
must request the file in UPPER CASE LETTERS ONLY.   Once you have 
entered a legal filename,  the program will load and display  the 
graph file.

     <T> - Type in a new graph.   The program will prompt you for 
a  graph  title.   You  may  respond with up  to  20  characters, 
including  spaces.   It  will then prompt you for the  number  of 
items to chart,  the title of those items, a value for each item, 
and the desired width of the individual bars.  

     <C> - Configure GRAF for one of the printer selections.  You 
will  be offered a selection of printers to choose  from.   Enter 
the  UPPER CASE LETTER that corresponds to your printer.   
                             >NOTE< 
You CANNOT proceed from the main menu until you select a printer.  
A message will print near the bottom of your screen reminding you 
to select a printer.   You may change your selection at will from 
the main menu.  

     <Q>  - Quit from GRAF.   This selection will return  you  to 
your operating system.


     When your graph is displayed, you will again be prompted for 
some  action.   You may save your graph to a file for future use, 
redraw the graph with new bar widths,  change the value of one or 
more of your bars,  print your graph,  or return to the main menu 
for another graph.  Each of these actions is addressed following:


     <S> - Save a graph file to disk.   This selection will  save 
your graph to a file that you name.   The program will prompt you 
for  the filename to use.   You must enter the filename in  UPPER 
CASE LETTERS ONLY.  

     <D> - Draw again.  This selection will prompt you for a  new 
bar width and redraw your graph accordingly.

     <C> - Change one value.  This selection allows you to change 
the  value  entered for any item.   The graph will be redrawn  to 
reflect the new value.

     <P> - Print  a  graph.   This selection prompts  you  for  a 
desired length,  20,  40, or 80 lines.  Some graphs may not print 
correctly  at a setting of 20 lines.   If  this  occurs,   merely  
select  a  longer graph,   either 40 or  80  lines.   This   only 
occurs  on graphs where the values are vastly different or  there 
are  many  narrow bars with wide swings in  value.    Almost  any 
graph can be successfully printed at 20 lines,   but, if yours is 
one of those that will not, try 40 or 80.

                            > NOTE <
     Remember,  longer graphs will provide better resolution  for 
the data values.  If the differences between your data values are 
not  sufficiently  represented when printed at 20  lines,  merely 
print  the graph at 40 or 80 lines to more clearly  differentiate 
between data values.

     <N> - New  graph.   This selection returns you  to the  main 
menu to draw/retreive another graph, reconfigure your printer, or 
quit.

     <Q> - Quit from  GRAF.   This selection returns you to  your 
operating system.

       ----->  NOTES REGARDING PRINTER INTERFACES  <-----

     Please read the following notes about YOUR printer....

     Okidata 92/93...

          The  software  is  configured to place the  printer  in 
compressed character (17 cpi) mode with 1/8" line feeds.  If your 
graphs print with blank bars,  you must manually toggle switch #7 
on your printer.

     Epson MX80...

          The  software  is  configured to place the  printer  in 
compressed character mode with 7/72" line feeds.   If your graphs 
print out double spaced,  you must manually toggle switch #2-3 on 
your printer.

     Letter Quality Printers...

          Most   higher   priced  letter  quality  printers   and 
electronic  typewriters are manually selectable as  to  character 
pitch.  We suggest you set your printer in its densest print mode 
prior to running GRAF.   

          Please  also note that not all print wheels contain the 
same  character array.   If the vertical lines on your graph  are 
not correctly printed,  it is most likely because the print wheel 
does not have the correct vertical character.   Just change to  a 
wheel  with  the  correct vertical character and  run  the  graph 
again.
