FROM: SABALINE SAN DIEGO (619)692-1961 24 HOUR BBS 300/1200/2400 BAUD SYSOP DON SABA SUBJECT: OVERLAYS FOR MODEM PROGRAMS FOR THE APPLE: Several years ago, Doug Laing (Garden Grove) introduced me to the Ray Klein SIO serial card for the Apple. This card does not use a slot, but piggy-backs on to the PCPI card in the same way as the Ram expansion card. This arrangement offers several advantages. 1. Two Serial Ports are available. 2. SIO Uart with CTC chip control baud rates without hardware switches. It has been my experience to download with the Apple thru port 1 of the SIO card, and use a Null Modem to transfer or upload them to my other computers. The enclosed overlays have been tested specifically with MDM740, IMP241, and MEX114. Conditional assembly has been tested with other cards; however, these overlays have been designed primarily around the SIO card. What the world needs now, is a Bye500 Apple Overlay for this card. If anyone comes up with one, please upload it to our board. Doug Laing should be given credit for the early configuration of this card, and the overlays in this library came from his BY-19sio.asm file. --Don Saba
