CENTURY - Version 0.1 [For IBM-Compatibles] Advance The CP/M-86 "Century" Setting Freeware from Kirk Lawrence CENTURY allows you to easily advance the CP/M-86 system "century" setting. When initially invoked, CENTURY advances CP/M-86's default century from 19xx to 2000, and sets a date of January 1. Running CENTURY more than once during the same CP/M-86 session results in an additional one-century incrementation per invocation. Therefore, CENTURY can theoretically be used for the next many thousands of years, up to the year 9999. CENTURY's effect is only temporary. It doesn't permanently alter any- thing in your system...so the program must be run each time CP/M-86 is booted. A permanent "fix" for the century setting can be effected by patching the CPM.SYS file. But for those users who aren't comfortable "hacking" their system file, CENTURY is a handy solution. It's suggested that CENTURY be run from an automatically executed SUBMIT file at boot-up (invoked from the "Power On Command Line")...immediately followed by the invocation of system clock-setting software. (Naturally, CENTURY may also be run manually from the CP/M-86 command line, just like any other executable program.) Some excellent CP/M-86 system time/date-setting programs are GETCLOCK.CMD (for PC- and XT-class machines with generic hardware clocks), GETATCLK.CMD (for AT-class computers), and SETTOD.CMD (for PCs/XTs containing the Dallas Semiconductor "Smartwatch" hardware clock). But be sure to invoke CENTURY =first,= before using your time/date-setting software. Standard CP/M-86 system clock-setting programs are not capable of altering the system's "century" setting. If you're using Digital Research's TOD.CMD to =manually= set your system's date and time, replace it with the freeware program NEWTOD.CMD. TOD.CMD will no longer be able to do its job after the year 1999. CENTURY is specifically designed for "CP/M-86 For The IBM PC and IBM PC XT, Version 1.1." It may not work with non-IBM O.E.M. versions of CP/M-86. CENTURY.CMD is free. As is always the case with "freeware," there are NO guarantees whatsoever. If you use the program, you do so entirely at your own risk and peril. Your use of CENTURY.CMD shall be prima facie evidence under law that you understand and accept these terms and conditions.
