GETCLOCK Version 0.1 [For IBM-Compatibles] CP/M-86 System Time/Date Setter For PCs and XTs Freeware from Kirk Lawrence GETCLOCK sets the CP/M-86 system clock to the date and time contained in the battery-operated PC/XT hardware clock. Simply invoke GETCLOCK from the command line (or from an AUTOEXEC.SUB-type of start-up file). GETCLOCK will automatically set the CP/M-86 system clock and calendar, and update the information on CP/M-86's status line to reflect the settings that were retrieved from the hardware clock. Naturally the hardware clock, itself, must be set correctly in order for the system date and time to be accurate! :) GETCLOCK works with most generic add-in clocks that are commonly found in 8086/8088-based PC- and XT-class computers. These clocks use standardized hardware port addresses of 240h or 340h. Whichever of these addresses your clock uses, GETCLOCK will find it. If your computer's clock is located at a non-standard hardware address, or if you have a proprietary clock that needs specialized clock-setting software (such as the Dallas Semiconductor "Smartwatch," for example), then GETCLOCK probably won't work for you. If you aren't sure about your particular hardware, go ahead and run GETCLOCK anyway. If the clock in your computer isn't compatible, GETCLOCK will exit with an error message, and no harm will be done. GETCLOCK does not work with AT-class computers (286 and higher). Use the program GETATCLK.CMD if you have an AT-class machine. GETCLOCK does not alter the CP/M-86 "century" setting. However, GETCLOCK may continue to be used indefinitely if, when the year 2000 arrives, you apply the "Y2K Patch" to your CPM.SYS file. If you're not comfortable patching your CP/M-86 system file, you can use the Y2K-compliant program GETCLK.CMD. GETCLOCK.CMD is free. As is always the case with "freeware," there are no guarantees whatsoever. If you use the program, you do so entirely at your own risk and peril. Your use of GETCLOCK.CMD shall be prima facie evidence under law that you understand and accept these terms and conditions.
