PC2XEROX Documentation PC2XEROX contains a version of BYE especially configured to allow direct connection of a PC (or clone) and a Xerox 16/8 at 19.2k baud. KMD is included to allow fast file transfers between the two computers. I don't know whether it will work on the Xerox 820-II or 820, but it might. Besides the contents of PC2XEROX, you will need: 1) A terminal program for the PC that will do 19.2k baud. Terminal emulation, especially Televideo 920/950, is also highly desirable. PROCOMM 2.42 fills the bill nicely. Configure all the modem options to do nothing. Set duplex to full. Set baud to 19.2k. Set terminal emulation to Televideo 950. Set the comm port to whichever one you intend to connect to the Xerox. 2) A null modem cable long enough to reach from the PC asynch port to the Xerox serial comm port, with a female end for the PC, and a male end for the Xerox. Since most available null modem cables are short little cables with two female ends, you can plug one of these into one end of a straight-through male-to-male serial cable to get the same result. Copy BYE.COM and KMD.COM to the Xerox disk or hard drive. Type "BYE" on the Xerox keyboard. NOTICE!! Run BYE on the Xerox just BEFORE physically linking the two computers with the cable. Otherwise the Xerox will hang, and will have to be rebooted. Once BYE is active, make the final cable connection. Run PROCOMM on the PC. At the PC keyboard, type a carriage return. You should see the message "Nulls, if needed 0-9" Type "0" and you should see the normal CP/M prompt on the PC screen. Both keyboards will input to the Xerox, and both screens will display the Xerox output, but it is assumed that you will spend most of your time at the PC end. Many Xerox programs configured to do full screen addressing, such as WordStar, will display properly on the PC screen, as long as the PROCOMM terminal emulation is set to Televideo 950. FILE TRANSFERS To download programs from the Xerox to the PC, at the PC keyboard, type: KMD S (filename) then press PgDn on the PC to do a normal PROCOMM download. It really cooks at 19.2k baud. You can also do batch transfers by typing KMD SB (ambiguous filenames), and then using PROCOMM ymodem batch transfer option. To upload to the Xerox, use "KMD R (filename)" or "KMD RB", then upload normally with PROCOMM. When finished talking to the Xerox, just exit PROCOMM normally with ALT-X. To connect to the Xerox again, run PROCOMM again. You may have to use the PROCOMM hangup command (ALT-H) to get BYE's attention again. That's all there is to it. - Joe England, 8-1-88
