HOT OFF THE DISK DRIVES!! 10/30/86 Roy Lipscomb writes programs as fast as they can be dreamed up! The CFOG (Chicago's First Osborne Group) meeting of Sunday, October 26, 1986 featured Roy Lipscomb of Logic Associates, Inc. giving a demonstration of his shareware SUPERMIT submit batch programs. During a five minute coffee break, Bill Kuykendall current CFOG president and SYSOP of CFOG RCP/M #2, complemented Roy that his SUPERMIT programs give CP/M powerful batch commands that outdo MSDOS .BAT routines. Bill mentioned that he wished he had a CP/M equivalent of the MSDOS ECHO OFF and ECHO ON commands. In MSDOS, the ECHO OFF command supresses all program output going to the video screen. ECHO ON restores normal operation. At that point, Roy Lipscomb proceded to write these two new programs in under five minutes! To use them, just place ECHOFF on a blank line in your SUBMIT batch file preceding commands that you want to run "in quiet mode." Be sure to put ECHON at or before the end of the batch file to restore normal operation. There's a little danger involved with ECHOFF: if the batch job is interrupted or aborted before the ECHON, the screen will remain blank and you'll have no idea what the computer is telling you (you won't even see the A> prompt). There are two ways to recover if this happens. You can "blindly" type ECHON or of course, you can just do a RESET and reboot. Logic Associates sells a manual for SUPERMIT and has some other handy CP/M programs at reasonable prices.
