The TYPEDATA.TXT file has been added with only two practice sentences and may be changed with the TYPEDATA.COM file. IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU HAVE ALL FILES FROM THIS FILE ON THE SAME DISK. Mike Guffey/Sugarland, TX ************************** The basics of touch *************************** typing **************************************************************************** This may seem a little confusing at first but it is actually very simple, first the letters in parenthesis indicate the fingers that are supposed to hit each key. (b) -- is your baby finger (r) -- is your ring finger (m) -- is your middle finger (i) -- your index finger (t) -- is your thumb If the letter in the parenthesis is capitalized, then you are to keep your fingers on these keys normally -- that is when you are not using them for typing -- these keys are called "home row", always keep your fingers on home row even though you have the temptation to lift your fingers off the keyboard!!! Please note how each finger is to control each of its surrounding keys. Notice that each finger naturally is to hit the characters above and below the home row keys. The index finger controls twice as many keys as the others. Take your time and be sure you have these few basic instructions in mind in order to learn properly. Have fun. left hand right hand _______________________________________________________________ | (b) | (r) | (m) | (i) | (i) |X| (i) | (i) | (m) | (r) | (b) | | ! | @ | # | $ | % |X| | & | * | ( | ) | |_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|X|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|______________ | (b) | (r) | (m) | (i) | (i) |X| (i) | (i) | (m) | (r) | (b) | (b) r | | Q | W | E | R | T |X| Y | U | I | O | P | e | |_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|X|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|________t | | (B) | (R) | (M) | (I) | (i) |X| (i) | (I) | (M) | (R) | (B) | |u | | A | S | D | F | G |X| H | J | K | L | : | " |r | Š |_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|X|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|n_| | (b) | (r) | (m) | (i) | (i) |X| (i) | (i) | (m) | (r) | (b) | | Z | X | C | V | B |X| N | M | < | > | ? | |_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|X|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____| | | | (t) space bar (t) | |_____________________________________________________| (C) 1983 Richard Hajinlian **************************************************************************** Using the typing tutorial program is as easy as any program should be. When first using the typing tutorial you should follow the basic instructions shown at the beginning of the program. Specifically; hit any key to begin the lesson. Hit the key labeled 'ESC' to pause and find out your ratio of correct verses incorrect trys. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED. Learning to type isn't easy at first. Place your fingers on home row and then hit the flashing character with the proper finger. If your response is the wrong one, your computer will beep, if your response is correct it will wait for your next typed character. NOTE: DON'T GET AHEAD OF YOUR COMPUTER, WAIT TO SEE WHAT CHARACTER IT IS ASKING YOU FOR. If at this point you wish to quit just take out the disk, put it away and reset the computer. If however you wish to continue just hit the 'B' key to (B)egin again, this will pick-up where you left off. You may at any time during the lesson exit and enter the lesson as often as you wish. ************* NEW USERS DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER ******************* When you have mastered the keyboard and feel that you wish to try a lesson without the video display keyboard (screen) you may wish to hit the 'N' key while the program is waiting for your response when the instructions are being displayed. Also you may enter your own text for your lessons at any time by running the typedata program, this is done by typing the word typedata, and entering your text that you wish to practice with. When you are finished entering your text hit the return key and type 'end' and then hit another return. END OF FILE
